JOHANNAH POWELL
Inspired by a love of nature + pattern
I founded JoYi Design Company in 2011 to provide a productive outlet for my graphic design skills and training. JoYi is a combination of my name, "Johannah" and the Chinese word for art, "YiShu." JoYi is pronounced, "Joey," which is also the nickname my parents gave me when I was young, because of my affinity for jumping around like a baby kangaroo. Looking back through the years, I've realized that creating art has been one of the most constant sources of energy and personal satisfaction in my life. In the words of Georgia O'keeffe, "I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way - things I had no words for."
